Top 5 Ways to get Amazing Photos
1.) Lesson 1 of the top 5 ways to get amazing photos is clothing. Clothing is essential, with most photographers, especially Kimble Photography. If you are guessing what to wear for your family portraits, dont over think it. If your photoshoot is down at the beach keep in mind that water is blue and sand is tan. If the clouds are overhead the sky can be grey. These simple facts can help you dress accordingly. Usually for a classic family portrait I tell people to dress in white shirts and blue jeans, this combination stands out and really creates a pop in the photos. Another classic look is black shirt and blue jeans, A shot taken with these often have high contrast and look stunning in any home. If Black and white is not your thing feel free to mix it up a bit, but keep in mind the ocean on a mid summer evening is a darker blue, so stay away from colors that will blend you in to the sand an ocean. Usually, Oranges, greens, and reds will create just the pop needed to get you the photo of your dreams. Whatever you decide upon dressing in just have fun, which brings me to the second point.
2.) Read reviews about your photographer. I know, I know research, its the pits, but with the right amount you wont be let down by crumby photography. Read both positive and negative reviews this will give you more insight on what to expect during your photo shoot. In general, most photographers are likeable, some are awkward and some are reserved. When choosing your photographer go with someone you can relate to and carry on a decent conversation with. On almost every photo shoot we do, we take at least 5 minutes getting to know our clients. This getting to know time is also known as breaking the ice. If a photographer doesnt take time to talk to you, they are not going to break the ice and your photos will undoubtedly be awkward and convoluted. Take the time to read the reviews and try to find out about the personality of the photographer that will be shooting you and your family it will save you from disaster after the shoot.
3.) There shall be no fighting or arguing before or on the way to the photo shoot! We have seen some pretty smug remarks on the faces of kids and parents alike when they fight or argue just before a photo shoot. Don’t do it. If everyone is happy, every photo will be too. For kids it takes longer for them to adjust and have fun if they have just been yelled at our scolded. Try to keep the mood positive and offer them a reward if they do good during the photo shoot. On some occasions for youngsters I usually bring a few quarters with me to entice them to smile and then after they fulfill my smiling wishes I happily give them a quarter.
4.) Relax and have fun. The photographer can worry about poses and hair and faces. Let the professional photographer guide you along and get the photos you want. Trust me you will be much happier with the final photos. Most important is the fun aspect. If your not having fun it will show on your face, plain and simple. We usually tell really super corny jokes and that gets our clients to smile and relax. When I say relax that doesn’t mean taking 5 shots of whiskey before the shoot. 5 shots usually gives bright red faces and awkward family portraits. Just don’t do it.
5.) Glasses should be used when the person wearing them, wears them 24 hours a day. If the person uses them only in certain situations during the day take them off. Glasses can create a wicked hot point of light and can prevent the camera from seeing the eyes. Usually the photographer can compensate for this by turning off the flash, increasing the ISO, and lowering the shutter speed, but in certain situations like when a subject is back lit it could be tricky and would be better off using a flash.
This concludes our top 5 ways to get amazing photos out of your photographer. I hope in some degree you were inspired by these. If you use just one of them you will be on your way to getting the photo/s that you so desperately want and deserve. If you’re a photographer here are 10 tips for getting the photos you want.
